We shall look back and relish the taste of success and memories,
then step front to embrace the oncoming challenges.
In the new millennium we shall use our abilities and potential to create a legacy,
a legacy belonging to every single cadet of NPCC.
Once upon a time, a girl named Li Ting entered sure that she would not regret her decision……
It had been three years since I first joined NPCC. I wouldn’t say NPCC changed my whole life; that would be a bit dramatic. But I would not deny the fact that NPCC certainly had brought much joy to my Secondary School life. When I was in Secondary 1, I was voted as the Assistant-in-charge of my squad. At that time, I did not think that it would be a tough job as well, most of the time, instructions are given to the Overall-in-charge instead of me. However, over the years, I learned that one should not be selfish. As the Assistant-in-charge, even if I am not assigned anything to do, it is my duty to ask the Overall-in-charge what I have to do. In NPCC, I learned that teamwork is the only thing that can help us overcome anything and everything. Without teamwork, there would not be any achievements, there would not be any bonding, there would only be self-centered people working on their own and only for their own good.
In NPCC, I learned to work together as a team, to listen to other people’s views and to accept their views. Over the years, I see my squad nurture into a bonded squad. Yes, there would surely be ups and downs, but even so, “One for all and All for one”. We eat together, play together and get scolded together, nothing can break us apart.
There would be times when I would be jealous. Why is it that this person gets all the credits? Why is it that this person always gets the chance to join competitions? However, I soon learned to cheer for others instead of feeling jealous. The reason as to why a cadet is given what he has is the fact that he had qualities that are better then us and that is why he is rewarded. If we want to get what we want, we have only to work hard for it.
Sometimes I wonder how is it that we can learn so much just by being a cadet. The reason is simple, it is the effort of our NCOs. Now that I am also an NCO, I have fears within me. Fear that I would not be able to teach the cadets what I have learnt, fear that I would waste the efforts that our past NCOs had done. Nevertheless, my squadmates and fellow NCOs are always there for me. It makes me feel safe that no matter what happens, I would be able to approach my squadmates, my CIs and even my ex-NCOs. The thing about NPCC is that, we will always be one big family.
When posting was out, I was not really satisfied with what I got. To say the truth, I was actually hoping for another post. But being an NPCC cadet for so long, I soon came to my senses. Everybody has different qualities and the postings that are given to us are because we would be able to do well by holding the post and contribute to the unit. It is our responsibility to do what is assigned to us, and who knows? We may grow to love our post. It is no use for us to feel sad for ourselves, instead we should look at the bright side and prove to others what we are capable of doing. We should not let those who have faith in us be disappointed.
Three years had passed and I can confidently tell everyone that I had not regretted joining NPCC. Being an NPCC cadet has brought me many insights like going overseas trip, holding a pistol, going to camps etc. I would like to say a bit THANK YOU to my school’s NPCC unit, for given such a chance to do so many things. Thank you for making me a better person, thank you for allowing me to have a chance to repay the unit by being an NCO and thank you for everything that you had done for us. I am sure that I am not the only one who feels this way and I am sure that BPNP would go far in years to come. JIAYOUS, BPNPCC!!!

BPGHS NPCC unit had improved over the years and managed to make some achievements. Everybody hopes that their unit would get better and that they would be able to bring glory to their unit. Other then that, there is one factor that I think would be a very important vision for the future of the unit, and that is the fact that we would not be complacent about our achievements and would continue to work hard in future years.
This is so as once the cadets start to feel complacent about our achievement; the standard of our unit would drop as cadets would think that they have no need to work as hard since the unit is already good enough. As the saying goes “Pride comes to a fall”. I hope that in future years, even if BPGHS NPCC unit is getting better, our cadets would not be complacent, but will still continue to work hard for the unit.
To me, though it is only a small and maybe to some, an insignificant vision, I feel that it is a very important factor that would contribute to the future to the unit. Other then that, I also hope that BPGHS NPCC unit’s cadets would continue to work together hand in hand and harmoniously and maintain the Bpian spirit. Achievements are not that important, what is more important is the fact that all the cadets are able to know the true meaning of teamwork, responsibility, integrity, friendship, hard work and of course having fun. NPCC should not be just a CCA to our cadets. It should be a CCA that would bring joy to the cadets’ school life and at the same time a learning platform for the cadets.
As long as everybody knows that they have a part to play and would do their best to fulfill their part, it would be a very great accomplishment for the unit. No matter what happens, we should not despair, but should find alternative ways to face a problem or situation. In times of needs, encouraging one another and maintaining a strong bond among the cadets in the unit will not only bring the unit far but would also let the cadets learn something valuable. BPNP, Go, Go, Go!!
Throughout their NCO year, it is very evident that nothing run as smoothly as it should be. Nothing is perfect and there are bound to be mistakes here and there. As NCOs, these tiny little mistakes here and there earned them their scoldings by the CIs. It would not be a rare sight to see the NCOs falling in after trainings to be scolded by the CIs, nor would it be surprising if they are brought to somewhere that no one can see. The truth is that, NCOs are often being scolded. The fact that their responsibility is so big, makes being an NCO a tough job.
After the POP session, ROD was held with games and performances by the cadets. There was a prize presentation for the NCOs and a last session of the cadets with their NCOs. It was a touching moment as the NCOs convey their last words to the cadets.
Instead of going on about the event, I feel that it would be more appropriate to express my gratitude for my NCOs. The Secondary Three year is the year in which cadets start to feel the stress on them. They are given chances to organize events and camps and leadership courses are offered to them to prepare them for their NCO year. During this period, what affect the Secondary Three cadets are their NCOs. During this period, when we feel that we are unable to do anything and at a lost of what to do, our NCOs are the ones who will guide us through. They are the ones who will calm us down and slowly make us see what we can actually do to solve the problem.
In fact, they some how seem like our teachers and mentors. When we do something wrong, we will surely be scolded by our NCOs. No leniency would be given to us. This is to make sure that we know what we have done wrong and where we can improve on. However, in times of needs, we can always approach our NCOs, knowing that we will be given great advice in the end.
To me, being an NCO is the greatest thing that can happen to a NPCC cadet. After being a cadet for three years, I realize that all NCOs have a common mission or vision, and that is to make sure that NPCC is fun for all cadets. NCOs are selfless and always do their best for the unit. It is really amazing how some NCOs progress from a shy cadet in Secondary Three to an NCO in Secondary Four. This all show what NPCC can do to one.
I would really like to thank the NCOs for what they had done for us for the past year. It had been a long but memorable year and what the NCOs had done for us allowed me to realize the true meaning of being an NPCC cadet. It isn’t only about drills and camp craft. There are some things that only an NPCC cadet will truly understand.

The fixtures that we had were not as lucky as the one we had during the Frisbee competition. We were all not very skilled in the game Captain’s ball and did not have any team practice beforehand. Therefore, this competition was a real challenge to us and we did not hold any hope of having the honour to emerge as champions. Winning a competition is not everything. Though we should not enter a competition with winning as our main motive, the satisfaction of winning a match is an additional bonus for us.
The competition was very great as the participating units were renowned for their good ball skills and everyone was determined to be the champion and bring honour to their units. However, good sportsmanship still existed between the units and the units themselves. Units, including ours, can be seen cheering for their chosen participants in the match and encouraging them throughout the matches. From this, we can say that the aim of the activity had been met.
Both the 2 teams that represented our school won the competition. However, they won differently. The boys’ team won literally and was the overall champion among the other teams. On the other hand, the girls’ team won figuratively. Unfortunately, the girls’ team lost their first match due to the lack of team coordination. Our confidence and team morale started to dwindle after a few missed goals which were the result of bad passes and communication breakdown. Furthermore, we were at a disadvantage as our opponents were taller than us and were able to make high passes. However, with the continued support of our fellow squad mates present and supporters from the other units, our team morale was boosted and we started playing well again. That match ended with us lagging just one goal behind our opponents. Nevertheless, we continue to show good sportsmanship and shook our opponents’ hands as a form of appreciation.
As the first match was a success for the boys’ team due to our ‘free-flowing’ passing and nice teamwork, our confidence increased by leaps and bounds. We began to have the ‘inspiration’ to play even better. There was nothing except the two words ‘joga bonito’ which means beautiful play to describe the kind of game we played.
Finally, the boys’ team managed to enter the finals. The final was a very competitive one. Although we drew first blood, the other team equalized within a very short time. The game carried on and in the end, we had won the finals. Winning the finals is always a very special thing there was no other words that could describe our feelings. We had won the cup!
After a short break at the canteen, we proceed on to the hall to have the prize presentation ceremony.
From this competition, we had learnt that through teamwork, we can achieve our target easily. As what team stands for, together everyone achieves more. Also, we had learnt that as a player, we must have sportsmanship and no matter the results, as long as we had done our best, there will be no regrets.

We falled in at
First up was the boys team match against Yio Chu Kang Secondary and we boys headed into the field. Our squadmates, NCOs, and our TO were there cheering for us, for every match. We won the first round against them, 3:0, gaining us 6 points. Later an announcement was made, that two schools were not present and so it was a walkover for our boys team. We went straight to the semi-finals, without having to battle it out in the qualifying round and quarter finals. We were relieved yet a little unsatisfied for such an easy win. Even so, our hopes were raised in getting a trophy for the school.
The mixed team and girls team did their very best as well, advancing far into the competition.
In the end, though none of the BPGHS team managed to clinch top spot for their respective divisions, we still managed to claim the overall Champion’s Trophy. This feat could never be achieved if not for competitive spirit and determination of all the teams. Both the boy’s and mixed team were second best to Cranberry Secondary and Choa Chu Kang Secondary respectively. Meanwhile, the girl’s team got third spot.
On the whole, we felt satisfied by our achievement. It was our maiden year in the Inter- Unit Frisbee Competition but still we showed everyone our team spirit and unity. As a result, we managed to overcome all odds and brought back the overall Champion’s Trophy. Though, we have to concede that we got a all long to go if we want to challenge the technical abilities of schools such as

Unfortunately, it was already raining when we were preparing for the event. Everything had to be shifted to the canteen instead of outdoor. Nevertheless, we kept our cool and continued with the guidance of our CIs and NCOs. Schools started streaming in at
Soon, after a short briefing by the MC and our TO, the event started. Everyone was so engrossed in doing their best, giving their best shot for the event, aiming for the top, the best. It was a sentimental sight as the look of determination on all competitors face greatly shows how serious they are in being the champions. Nevertheless, everyone was cheering for the competitors whether they are just supporters or competitors. Cheering for them, encouraging them and believing in them, these were what really made the event meaningful. It is not only about winning; it is the spirit, the mentality of the cadets that really determine the ultimate winner in the end.
There was a break for the cadets after the event while the sirs and ma’ams were counting the score. The cadets could get a free drink at the drink store to hydrate themselves, at the same time ‘explore’ or walk around the school during the break. The prize presentation followed shortly after that and the 1st runner-up for girls is
The whole event was really a valuable experience for the cadets in charge as this was their first time organising an event for units from other school. After preparing for it and going through the whole procedure again and again for the past few days, the event was successfully carried out. Although everything could be done better in other areas, it was a job well done, seeing that it was our first time. I think that is what NPCC is all about. It is not only about drills, campcraft and more drills, the learning procedure and the way all cadets work together makes the squad more bonded together, understand more about each other and most of all, the cheering and encouraging our fellow cadets regardless of what happened. The opportunity for cadets to plan events and carry them out, this is what NPCC hopes to gain. Cadets are trained to be future leaders and planners, to be independent and cooperative. Most importantly, is letting the cadets know the importance of teamwork and communication with their group members.
However, without the CIs, HOs and TOs to help us and guide us along, it would have been an extremely difficult task. Therefore, we would like to thank them for making the event a successful one but even so, everything ended well and experiences, lessons were obtained and learnt throughout the whole event.
